Updates From The Goddess!
The Stellar Performer, Marla Mase!
The best way to begin a brand new week is to begin it with the incredible Marla Mase. To let all the fans and readers out there know of yet another ‘perfect moment’ for The Goddess, and to once again SPEAK to all of you about the never-ending work and incredible talent this woman brings to her audiences!
First of all, the Songwriter’s Beat Festival was held and Marla Mase has stated that it was, “as Fantastic as I expected. AND despite the 100-degree weather, people showed up and experienced three nights of some of the best ‘sweaty sexy music’ to be found in all of New York City.” Marla Mase fans can unite and say “Amen” to that one! New Yorkers are certainly not “wimps,” and the heat just added to that sultry vibe of Marla Mase’s music that literally illuminates and inspires the crowd!
Marla Mase went on to say how extremely honored she was to be on the same ‘bill’ with some seriously legendary musicians. As a true fan of Marla Mase, however, I have to say that I bet they were honored, as well; seeing as that Marla Mase and her new CD SPEAK are literally the absolute ‘best there is’ in today’s music world. The Songwriter’s Beat Festival was a huge success, and as for Marla’s set: “me and the band, we had a BLAST! FUN-FUN-FUN! Thanks to all who showed up.”
One more spectacular event that went off without a hitch, where thousands of extremely lucky people in Buffalo got to be a part of Marla Mase’s world for a while, was when Marla Mase performed at the Buffalo Infringement Festival that was held on August 5th and 6th.
This amazing festival actually ran for eleven-days, holding various events and performances in a variety of venues in and around Buffalo’s Allentown District. On August 5th, Marla Mase performed at the legendary Essex Street Pub, a well-known landmark in Buffalo; and on August 6th, lit up the ‘stage’ at a local gallery. For everyone like me who could not be in Buffalo and missed out, Marla Mase wanted to let you ALL know what went down:
I just came back from playing two shows at “The Buffalo Infringement Festival” this weekend. Yes, that’s right, Buffalo, NY – and we did eat BUFFALO CHICKEN WINGS at “The Anchor Bar” where it all started. Tomás Doncker and I did a ‘White Stripesesque’ version of tunes from both A Brief Night Out and Speak to a very enthusiastic ‘cart wheeling’ crowd. And when I say ‘cart wheeling,’ I mean it.”
For everyone who would love to see those cartwheels in person, and do some of their own, Marla was nice enough t enclose the Facebook link to the event to see it all firsthand: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=251382321546283
The woman never stops, people. Next up is the event on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 between seven and nine p.m. that we mentioned over the past two weeks. HARMONY FOR HUNGER is a day devoted to raise money for an outstanding organization named, City Harvest. Marla Mase will be performing with Tomás Doncker (guitars, vocals); Booker King (bass); Heather Powell (vocals); and, Tobias Ralph (drums), to raise money for these incredible people and their mission. So everyone should come out for that one. As Marla, herself, says: “There is nothing better to lift one’s own spirits than to do service of some kind.”
There’s also big news for October, readers! Marla Mase has announced that she will be performing at one of New York City’s most fun and spectacular locations. On October 5, 2011, Marla Mase will star at Otto’s Shrunken Head (I love that name). Otto’s was built when a small group of native New Yorkers, and one Pittsburgh-‘er’ got together and decided that New York City did not have a decent Tiki Bar. So they went forward and purchased the Beauty Bar & Barmacy, transforming it into New York City’s very own Tiki ‘oasis.’ Yes, the Tiki gods were smiling as Otto’s Shrunken Head opened in the summer of 2002.
Even New York City needed a place with that laid back island vibe of the South Pacific, and Otto’s has gone on to become a stellar locale featuring live bands and DJ’s that have set the island of Manhattan on fire. It didn’t take long for Otto’s to become the premier Rock-n-Roll Tiki joint in New York City. And soon Otto’s will have the absolute honor of Marla Mase gracing their stage as she stuns that laid-back crowd with her thrilling tracks from A Brief Night Out, and the undeniably perfect CD, SPEAK.
.
Otto’s is a true “fixture” of the NYC live music scene, just as Marla Mase is an undeniable fixture in the world of extraordinary music. In fact, Otto’s doesn’t only have live bands in all genres like Rock, Garage, Metal, Surf, and Acoustic – they also have a line of great DJ’s throughout the week, literary readings, film screenings, and a monthly live band Karaoke night. But they have NEVER had someone as truly remarkable as Marla Mase!
In essence, this is the perfect venue for the great Marla Mase, considering this is a woman who knows and can sing it all! And Otto’s crowd is truly going to be knocked into their rum-concoctions as they listen to the one-of-a-kind lyrics and music that only The Goddess, herself, owns
Also, if you would like to hear Marla’s own words live, REW and Who interviewed Marla Mase on July 20th: Head over to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8mCbF4pFMM to check it out!
I know, the list always goes on with Marla Mase. As a writer, I am always so enamored and honored to be working with someone who not only has the talent, passion, and drive that leads to the best music this world has heard in decades, but also someone who has the heart and soul to reach out and help others.
I told you last week how it is not very often that a person comes along who wants to do good, but Marla Mase is that one being who we can all rely on to not only give us the “gift” of perfect music – but also the gift of friendship!
Until Next Time, Everybody!
