What began with a play called Man/Woman that was then cut down to a smaller work, Marla composed an unforgettable event entitled, A Brief Night Out. This amazing story highlights one woman`s life laid out raw and real in front of an audience that will leave the venue stunned by a truly masterful performance. A Brief Night Out has the words, scenes, and music that lead the audience through the confusing world of a middle-aged woman who is having an affair. This woman is a mom who is falling apart at the seams, as she reaches deep inside her soul and speaks with her therapist, (brilliantly played by Martin Vidnovic who is a Tony-nominated veteran of the Broadway stage and winner of Drama Desk awards), about the issues she`s facing. The musical scenes focus on the woman as she talks to her therapist and offers – through song and music – a truly sexy, unbelievably dynamic story. She unloads her obsession with war and other issues, as well as opening up about her lover who suffers from his own addictions. She must face the fact that she feels every twinge of pain, lust, attraction and obsession for her lover, and finds herself stuck in a mid-life crisis that captures her sensual obsessions and speaks loud and clear of love and confusion, and the personal issues that one woman must face to keep her head above water.

Marla transformed A Brief Night Out from the literary world to a rock-n-roll musical. Combining her talented script, in-your-face personality, and the creative thespian sitting dormant inside her brain, she reached one of her Kali- `like` hands outward and connected to a man who is an internationally renowned guitarist and recording artist by the name of Tomas Doncker. As he listened to Marla`s incredible stories, lyrics, melodies, and scope of her amazing project, Tomas began to create the music that would accompany this amazing play. The music was as profound as the words, and Tomas also became the producer of the unforgettable CD.

A reader can only imagine how those beginning sessions must have felt. One can only close their eyes and think about the type of utopia that was created when two performers of such magnitude combined forces. Marla`s words led down a path of of absolute die-hard feeling, while Tomas created that background, ” that sheer power that kept time with the steps she walked. It`s as if the listener can see the many windows of a hotel in the distance, and framed in each one is an emotion – a scene of human activity that you need to feel for yourself and become a part of.

When the debut album was released, A Brief Night Out soon became a NYC star. With the classic downtown sound of the CD interwoven with the rock-n-roll musical by the same name the gutsy, hardcore beauty of the performance offers musical styles that include everything from funk, blues, pop, rap and, of course, rock-n-roll. Truly there is a window ” for every desire; every yearning that each member of the audience holds within their own soul. Behind Marla`s fearless performance, as the provocative lyrics find their way to the ears of the audience, she is backed by she is backed by the Tomas Doncker Band. The plain name is not an issue. Because once these amazing, veteran musicians – the likes of which the human populace could not even fathom being on the same stage at the same time – begin to play, there`s absolutely nowhere an audience member would rather be.
